In existence as a college since January 1, 2006, we continue to focus on investing the necessary resources to build an outstanding college of public health that will be recognized for high quality teaching, research, and service. The college is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
Serving Students and the Community
The Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health focuses on empowering rural communities and underserved populations, to effectively address public health issues, eliminate health disparities, and improve health outcomes. To achieve this level of excellence, the college is committed to a student-centered approach, development of academically distinct programs of study, dissemination of outstanding applied research that advances both the science and practice of public health, and the establishment of effective partnerships, collaborations with partners and outreach and service activities that help build healthier communities and the public health workforce.
Our Mission
The mission of the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health is “to improve health, eliminate health disparities and health inequities of rural communities and underserved populations globally through excellence in teaching, public health workforce development, research, scholarship, professional service and community engagement."
To accomplish this mission, we seek to maintain the following:

Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health Degree Programs
Doctor of Public Health (DrPH)
The DrPH program offers students the opportunity to specialize their training in five program concentration areas on our Statesboro campus:
- Biostatistics
- Community Health Behavior and Education
- Epidemiology
- Health Policy & Management New
- Public Health Leadership
Master of Public Health (MPH)
The MPH Program offers students the opportunity to integrate core competencies in the five basic areas of public health, with specialized expertise in one of six program areas:
- Applied Public Health (online)
- Biostatistics
- Community Health
- Environmental Health Sciences
- Epidemiology
- Health Policy & Management
Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH)
The BSPH Program offers students the opportunity to integrate core competencies in the five basic areas of public health, with specialized expertise in one of three emphasis areas:
- Global Health
- Health Education and Promotion
- Environmental Health Sciences
Public Health Certificate
The 16-hour Certificate in Public Health is a fully online degree for students or working professionals interested in upgrading their knowledge and skills without having to enroll in a master’s program.
However, students interested in the Master of Public Health at Georgia Southern University can use certificate coursework to satisfy degree requirements. Students can also use certificate coursework to satisfy prerequisite requirements for the Doctor of Public Health degree.
